ZCell storage system cuts home power bill by 80%

South Australian John Altree-Williams has seen the summer quarter power costs for his Adelaide house plunge by 80 per cent from the previous summer after installing a Redflow-based energy storage system. As ell as reducing electricity costs and improving energy independence by guaranteeing power supply during any grid blackouts, ZCell offers an Internet-enabled Battery Management System that allows Mr Altree-Williams to monitor closely his home’s energy usage patterns, enabling him to ensure it operates at peak efficiency so he can automate the system in future.

ZCell eliminates power costs for holiday house

After Scott Hicks bought a holiday house at Mannum, on the Murray River in South Australia, he discovered that it came with huge power bills. The first summer power bill was $1700. Since deploying solar panels and a ZCell battery from Redflow, Mr Hicks has seen his electricity bills go into credit, despite being on a modest feed-in tariff. The ZCell battery also guarantees power supply for the house – which was previously disrupted by a pesky flock of white cockatoos chewing on the incoming powerlines. Mossel Bay goes carbon neutral with Redflow

Mossel Bay Municipality provides local government and electricity services to the South African city of Mossel Bay. Since deploying four Redflow ZBM2 batteries to support two buildings that house its Technical Services Department, the municipality has seen the facility become a net exporter of energy to the electricity grid, as the Redflow batteries intelligently store and supply energy generated by 114 solar panels on the roof. This has effectively made these two buildings carbon neutral and provided a model for how this energy storage technology can be used elsewhere in the community. Queensland home sets Redflow residential record

When Scott and Breeann Bates built a new house on their Queensland cattle and grain property near Wallumbilla, they chose a ZCell-based energy storage system to give them independence from the power grid and freedom from having to pay electricity bills. Their six-battery system – the 60 kilowatt-hour energy storage system is Redflow’s largest ZCell residential deployment in Australia – ensures complete off-grid operation for their home, which is 2.7 kilometres from mains power. Victorian couple live off-grid dream with Redflow

Sound engineer Adrian Shand and his partner live in an old central Victorian stone cottage that is completely off the grid. Using two ZCell zinc-bromine flow batteries, powered by 21 PV solar panels, the Redflow-based energy storage system allows the couple to maintain a “city lifestyle” in the country, without “calorie counting” their energy use. The ZCells, which store a total of 20 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of energy, can charge fully in just four hours on a sunny day. Bosco beats power cuts with Redflow batteries

South Africa’s largest manufacturer of printed circuits, Bosco Printed Circuits, has eliminated twice a week power cuts that had disrupted production, delayed deliveries and cost more than 100,000 rand a year by deploying Redflow ZBM2 zinc-bromine batteries. Bosco has also reduced its electricity costs by minimising grid use during peak demand periods in the morning and evening – when charges increase by 300-400 per cent – by running the production line on solar-generated energy and off-peak power stored in its 14 ZBM2 batteries. Noble fires up ZCell for bushfire defences

Prominent Australian technology executive Alan Noble required an all-season, highly reliable energy supply at his family-owned property near the South Australian town of Willunga, to guarantee water pumps would work on high fire-risk days in summer. Faced with a very high price to extend mains power across the hilly 100-hectare block, plus the expense of ongoing electricity bills, Mr Noble decided to deploy a more cost-effective off-grid energy storage solution based on two ZCell batteries that can store 20 kilowatt hours (kWh) of energy – eliminating power bills for the property entirely. Hackett house powers through SA blackout

Simon Hackett is a man who likes to walk the walk as well as talk the talk, so the Redflow CEO was an early adopter of the Redflow-designed zinc-bromine flow battery that is at the heart of the ZCell residential energy storage system. At his eastern Adelaide home, Mr Hackett installed two Redflow batteries in early 2016, replacing a pair of ageing lead-acid batteries. As well as slashing energy consumption in his home, Mr Hackett saw the batteries power his household through a state-wide grid blackout in September that year without his family even noticing the power outage.
